LaDeroute Release new CD called "Here"

Watauga County residents who have listened to and danced to the local band Laditude can now listen at home. Long-time Boone residents Ken and Amy LaDeroute, musicians and singers in Laditude (formerly Cloud Nine), have released their CD “Here” and it’s available locally.

With Ken writing all the songs and playing almost all of the instruments as well as handling the audio engineering chores, and with his wife Amy as the primary vocalist, the project took five years to complete. According to Amy, listeners who have danced to Laditude’s music at events such as the Fur Ball may be a little surprised, but pleased, with the songs Ken wrote. Why? Many of the tunes can be categorized as love songs. “There’s not much rock n’ roll in there,” she says, “even though, when Ken performs live, he seems to be much more of a rock n’ roll artist. The album came out more emotional than some people might expect.”

According to Ken, the underlying theme of the album is the strong relationship he has with Amy and his feelings for her. Ken says, however, that the cuts on “Here” cover several categories in addition to being love songs. “They’re pop,” he says. “They’re catchy, feel-good, happy tunes.”

The title of the CD comes from the title of one of album songs, “Here.” Ken and Amy say the tune may be the best of the ten album cuts. According to Ken, “Here” flowed from a satisfied feeling he has acquired after living in Boone for several years. “It’s a sense of stability,” he says. “The song represents that feeling of stability, of having an anchor, and of feeling right about being here in Boone.”

The LaDeroutes paid attention to the packaging of the CD as well as the music that’s on it. The CD comes in a triple-folder featuring the lyrics of all the songs as well as photos of Ken and Amy taken by area photographer Todd Bush. The disc itself is different. “We wanted the CD to be one that, if you were to lay it on your table, you wouldn’t wonder what cover it goes with,” Amy says. “So we had out photos and ‘Laditude’ put on the CD’s themselves.”
